Unfortunately some very sad news from the weekend. Ian Morison has passed on. Ian was a long standing member of Macclesfield Camera Club and was always ready to help out, share his love for both photography and astrophotography. Always ready with a quick tale and to share his skills be it about photography, cameras, lenses or about the latest gear he had acquired. As well as being extremely knowledgeable and a great photographer he was always very self effacing and enjoyed the ability to pass on his knowledge, experience, skill and love of photography.

Amongst his many pleasures, as well as being an active member of Macclesfield Camera Club, Ian was also an active member of Macclesfield Astronomical Society (Macc Astro) and until recently kept a monthly update on what has happening in the night sky on Jodrell Bank web site (Monthly Night Sky).

Our thoughts are with his wife, family and his many friends and colleagues from Ian’s many clubs.

Below is just one of Ian’s many superb images from a trip to New Zealand. Many other of his images can be found on the Macc Astro web site along with those of his friends.

Ian you’ll be greatly missed.

Yep – we’re still busy

By Competitions, News No Comments

Whilst it might seem that we’ve not been busy of late trust me we have. To prove it just take a look at our most recent internal competitions’ images post Christmas. Just after Christmas we held our 3rd competition and before we knew it our 4th was in the making. This was interspersed with critique evenings and also our own AV challenge. To see the top scoring images from the internal competitions just visit our competitions page: Internal Competitions 2023/2024.

Here are just a couple of examples from those competitions

2nd Internal Competition Results

By Competitions, News No Comments

We have had little time to catch our breath before our 2nd internal competition was upon us. This was an Open DPI competition but with a Mono / Black & White theme. Like all our internal competitions this season the images were judged by a group of selected club members rotating between 5 of them but with additional input and feedback from all our other members on the competition night. It was a busy night of judging with little time for a break. Thank you to all the members who submitted images and to all the judges for providing their feedback. We had 14 images held back and 5 scoring top marks. Congratulations to Steve Gresty, Irene Lea and Kevin Blake for scoring 20 points for their images.

Competition Season Continues

By Competitions, News No Comments

Well its been a busy time on the competition front. Following on from the Robert Shaw and High Peak external competitions we held our first internal competition of the season.

First Internal Competition

This was an Open DPI competition which was judged by members of the club. Congratulations to Jeff Dakin for his winning image Roe Deer Buck scoring 20 points. More details and the top images can be found on our internal competitions page: Internal Competitions 2023/2024.

L&CPU Knockout Competition

We entered our first L&CPU competition for a while. This was the L&CPU Knockout Competition where each club can enter 8 images with no more than 2 per author. Whilst we didn’t win we did manage to come 7th out of 40 clubs which I think merits an honourable mention. For more details please visit our external competitions page: External Competition Images 23/24.

Vera International

The L&CPU Knockout was quickly followed (the very next day) with an international competition between Macclesfield Camera Club and Vera International, who are based in Mojácar. 24 images from both clubs were judged by Macclesfield Camera Club’s past president and member: Brian Law, who quite rightly showed no bias or favouritism. It was a great way to pass an afternoon on a seasonal wet and grey November Sunday. Congratulations to Alex White for having the top image (Dawn at Vasco da Gama Bridge) and to Macclesfield Camera Club who won out on the day. For more details please see our external competitions page: External Competition Images 23/24.

High Peak Trophy 2023

By News No Comments

On Monday 23rd October we entered the High Peak Trophy which was hosted by Bramhall Photographic Society, so a big thank you to them, especially for the lovely home cooked scones. After the relative success of the Robert Shaw Trophy the previous external competition it was back down to earth for the club where we didn’t fair as well. Some interesting images on the evening but a big thank you to all those who submitted images.

The images and the scores can be found on the external competitions page: External Competitions – 2023/24
