Success at the PAGB

By News No Comments

We submitted entries in both the Nature Cup as well as the Small Clubs Cup. This was judged over the weekend of the 20th January 2018. The Nature Cup allows us to submit a maximum of 21 images which a maximum of 3 per author, and the Small Clubs Cup a maximum of 10 images with 4 authors and a maximum of 4 per author. Well we did quite well. In the Nature category we’ve up’ed our game from sharing 23rd to 20th in our own right!, but that’s not all! In the Small Clubs we’ve leapt from 39th to 8th and only a couple of points for making it into the top 5 in the country. So well done all and to those who provided images, please keep on up’ing our game.

Success for Alison in “Women Behind the Lens” Competition

By Competitions, Members Successes, News No Comments

Congratulations to Alison Lomax who had an image shortlisted in Picfair’s “Women Behind the Lens” competition.  The competition was open to all women photographers and attracted over 4,000 entries from more than 40 countries.  The aim was to raise the profile of female photographers as currently only 2% of photographers on the books of major commercial agencies are female.

Images were entered into four categories – Portrait, Nature, Street Level and Architecture – with five images being shortlisted in each category.  Alison’s entry, “Sunflower Close-Up”, was entered and shortlisted in the Nature category.

All shortlisted images were displayed in the entrance gallery of The Guardian’s offices in London.

A selection of images which didn’t quite make the shortlist were displayed electronically in the gallery.  Congratulations also go to Louise Acton for having one of her images in this selection.

Alison’s image and all other shortlisted images can be viewed here.

Macc Regain the High Peak Trophy

By News No Comments

What a fantastic start to the season!  Having regained the Robertshaw Trophy in October, last night we won the High Peak Trophy.  We hosted the event which takes place between Macclesfield, Stalybridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith and Bramhall.  The judge was Keith Barber of Swinton and District Photographic Society.  The evening was very well attended by the other clubs.

The competition is split into a prints round with 8 images submitted by each club and then a DPI round with 8 images per club.  The club with the highest combined score for the two rounds is the winner.  At the end of the prints round, Macc and Stalybridge were tied for first place with 147 points each.  Chapel had 134 points and Bramhall had 126.  In the DPI round, Macc forged ahead finishing with 150 points while Stalybridge had 141, Bramhall had 137 and Chapel had 132.

The overall results were: Macclesfield – 297, Stalybridge – 288, Chapel-en-le-Frith – 266, Bramhall – 263.

The individual print scores and names of Macc’s authors can be found here.

The individual DPI scores and names of Macc’s authors can be found here.

Special congratulations go to David Tolliday who’s image, Safe Return, was selected as the best in the competition.
