End of a Busy Season

By News, outings No Comments

Whilst we may not have been busy with news items we have though been busy with a full photographic season. Our current season is nearly over with the culmination of our season being our Annual Exhibition which is being hosted by Macclesfield Library in the library’s gallery on the first floor. It’s on for two weeks starting on the 15th May so please come along and enjoy a feast of great images taken by our members.

In the meantime here’s just a taste of the results of one of our member’s trips during the winter to Finland.

The trip was to Kuusamo and run by Kuusamo Nature Photography and lasted for about 10 days including our travels from Manchester. The main reason for the trip, as well as enjoying the stunning Finnish landscape, was to photograph Golden Eagles at the Oulanka Eagle Hides. Over the week we saw over 17 different species of birds but others were still elusive so a return trip is planned. There are also many tales to tell of our adventure but that will have to wait for another time.

With well over 4,000 images taken by each of us here’s just a few of the various birds we saw.

Robertshaw Trophy – 12th October 2017

This coming Thursday is the Robertshaw Trophy which is our first external competition. This year it is being hosted by Crewe Photographic Society (http://www.crewephotosoc.com/) and being held at Crewe Vagrants Sports Club. The address is Newcastle Road, Willaston, Nantwich, CW5 7EP. The start time is 7:30pm and it will take about an hour to get there from Macclesfield.

The competition is between Crewe, Blythe Bridge, Holmes Chapel, Leek and Macclesfield and is being judged by Bob Dennis. It would be good if we could get a number of people to go to support the club. Terrific members night out at Blackpool illuminations

By News, Night Photography, outings One Comment

Around a dozen of us made the trip to Blackpool in four shared cars, most leaving Macc between 2pm and 3pm although a few had driven up the night before. We had around two hours of daylight photography before the night came and the lights were turned on at 6.45pm. Despite the length of the prom we all managed to bump into each other sometime during the night. The weather was extremely kind to us, no wind and no rain and it really wasn’t terribly busy either. The lights are a terrific show with the lit up trams, water reflections from the beach and multiple viewing angles from varying distances of the Tower to help get some good nighttime landscapes. I think everyone managed to get some good and very different shots. We will plan to show the best of these at some future camera club evening. Below is Kevin Blake’s creative slow shutter work of the passing tram.

Camera Club ladies experimenting at Biddulph Grange

By News, outings

Four of our Camera Club ladies have recently visited Biddulph Grange, a delightful high Victorian garden organised by the National Trust. It is an amazing garden created by James Bateman for his collection of plants from around the world. We had a lovely day relaxing in the gardens and despite it being busy and very bright we all captured some lovely images. As you can see we were also experimenting with our technique.
